My first thoughts on this whole business is that I actually have no idea where to start. What do I want to write about? Where would I want to put my radio? It’s radio silence in my mind, complete with slight static-y buzzing. There isn’t really anything that comes to mind, and I wonder if this is because I feel a sense of disconnect from this project. This may be because I have yet to properly acquaint myself with it. I could tell you what the project is, but in doing so I would be reciting it not unlike a child reading to their parents when they have not yet actually learned to read and are just repeating memorized sounds and flipping the pages at memorized times. While I do think this project is a really interesting concept, I cannot say that at the moment I feel extremely passionate about it, but I hope I will come to. At the moment, it just seems like something that will come to pass.
A topic that I might be interested in discussing is human connection in relation to how our current society operates with mayyybe an emphasis on technology’s involvement in this. It is something I think about often because the exponential advancement of technology is truly challenging so much of what it is to be human, including how to interact with other humans, and our culture is increasingly work oriented and less generous in the way of providing spaces and times for people to socialize. The cherry on top of this all is the nihilistic view, held by so many of the younger generations, that the world is ending and that we are all doomed so what does anything mean anymore and what does any of it matter?
In a way, this ties into the discussion of the anthropocene and the chthulucene because to tackle these questions one must strongly consider what it means to be in an age defined by humans versus an age defined by other lives.
To complement this pondering I have an image of a crochet octopus with a computer (yay!) that is based off a pattern from this artist: https://www.maxsworld.co.uk/2011/11/an-octopus-with-a-laptop/
I also have an image of a radio controlled spider sourced from google images!!
