Week 3 Journal Entry – Nathaniel Wood

Okay. Well, this is nerve wracking. I am still uncertain as to what is expected in this class and, more importantly, what I will do for the final project. I mean, I do understand the basics. This is a class on code-switching, translanguaging, and related areas. It is also working towards a final radio project with the students of another class. They build the radios while we provide the material to be presented. Simple. Or not. I don’t know. Either way, it is a bit scary to have to put all this work out in public (even if people need a radio and a frequency to hear that work) and publish journal entries (such as this one) on a website that will eventually be published.

Anyways, I have no idea where to start. Hopefully I will get some idea as we read and write more for the class. But right now, I am still processing the basics of this class. Journals, writings, final projects, etc. Still trying to comprehend all of these and the expectations of each assignment.

Okay, there is one place to start. Which is where I will put my radio. Obviously, I want to talk it over with whoever I am partnered with for this project. But for me, I am currently thinking of either Eighth College or Asante Hall.

Eighth College is where I currently live. Specifically, Sankofa. Anyways, it was the first location to come to mind when deciding where to put my radio station. I mean, I live there and know an RA. So, it should, in theory, be much easier to get access to compared to Geisel Library or a lecture hall. Anyways, I do not know anyone else who is in Eighth College and the class, although I could be mistaken since I know very few people in the class anyways. But it is simple and seems like it would be a fun place to broadcast from.

The other place that came to mind, albeit after a while, was Asante Hall in ERC. It would likely require more effort, as it is an actual hall people teach in. And it would be gutsier because of that reason and the fact that a club I am part of, Model UN, meets there. But it would be neat. I mean, I regularly go there and have had so many memories and experiences there that I could write about. Plus, it would be neat (and scary) to tell my friends during a meeting to tune in to whatever station we are using and they listen to my final project for the class.

So, those are the two areas I am thinking. However, I am leaning more towards Asante than Eighth, as I have more experience and memories there to write about. So, unless someone else claims it, I will put my radio in Asante. Wish me luck!
