This class has allowed me to finally do something that I would like to do career-wise, bridge the gap between two different fields of study. My goal was to become a Marine Biologist, but I wasn’t a fan of four years of math and science, mainly chemistry and physics. Yet, I am still passionate about the sea, and marine life, especially Orcas. I was thriving in the writing field, and I love to read and study. So my goal in life is to write and educate others about marine life and what we can learn from Orcas. Upon learning about the radio collaboration project, I wasn’t very interested at first because I am not that good at machinery and building, yet I am open to learning or helping. I was told in class we will have partners who will build the radio and we will provide the messages that will be broadcast across campus. I am now in search of someone who wouldn’t mind placing their radio far from campus. Based on what I will be broadcasting, they’ll have an idea of where I would like to place it. It is something, and I am someone who, when they have a vision, I stick to it. I’m very open to other ideas, but the vision must still be the same about what it will be about and where it should be located. My goal is to compose this first journal entry, follow up on what my current SIO professor thinks about the project, and perhaps offer an idea of where we can put the radio, as well as a green light to continue ahead. This will be a win/win for both the Literature/Science departments.
