So, now I have to write a second journal entry for this week because I did not do one last week. It is annoying, especially since there was no prompt (nor did I have access to this website) last week. We had only just begun this project then. I still did not fully understand what we were supposed to be doing. Even now, I still find it weird. But I have a better grasp of what is going on as opposed to trying to figure out what to do.
We got a lot of key words to think about this week. Performance, performativity, code switching, translanguaging, and auto-translation. And we also got our first audio assignment, which was a video by Gomez Pena. So, now I actually have some understanding of what is expected and what I can do with this unusual radio project. I have some idea of sound and what is meant by all of this talk of codeswitching and whatnot. But it will still be complex and hard, especially since there is an upcoming assignment and I still need to figure out what to do.
What to do. I definitely want to do something related to Asante Hall. Put up my little radio station and broadcast out from there. So what to talk about. Model UN is about it. Maybe I can talk about the history of the hall for a bit. Or a bit about what I assume the hall is named after, a tribe of people from Ghana (that was the top search result I got for “asante”). The flag of this group of people is below. But I will really need to do more research to do any of this. This includes confirming that Asante Hall is named after the Asante.

Anyways, the main thing I would like to write about is my experiences in the hall. It is mostly related to Model UN, the club I am a part of and have been since freshman year. I have met many people and made many memories with this club. It is the part of campus that I have the most memories with. Or at least, the most interesting memories. Either way, that is where I will begin. More research on the hall and beginning to discuss the importance of this hall to me.
