I have completed my first draft for the final project. Hooray! Now it has been posted to the discussion board and is up for workshop this week.
Anyways, the writing process was pretty quick and simple. This was mostly because I was very busy this weekend helping run a conference for Model UN. As such, I did not have a lot of time to revise or think through what I was going to write. So, I just wrote and, after a few minor revisions, submitted it. That was it.
The thought process behind this first draft was, well I am going to do a radio piece. So, it should be able to work as a sonic piece and not just a pretty writing piece. And I really liked the style of Gomez-Pena’s pieces and wanted to try and do something similar. As such, I decided that the piece would involve someone flipping through the radio, tuning in to different channels for a bit before moving on. And the setting was an apocalyptic setting, end of days, rapture, Book of Revelations stuff. So, I just started writing down different phrases that could relate to that. And that was it. That was my whole piece! It is not the best I could have done and can be improved upon. However, it is a draft, and I am satisfied with what I produced. And it can still be changed and edited, based upon the feedback I get this week.

I also now have more of an idea as to how to make a sonic piece after listening to Marco Werman’s pieces and hearing him speak in class today. One of my main concerns was (and still is) assembling the piece. Figuring out how to assemble and record all the sounds to make this project will be one of the trickiest parts. But I now have an idea. According to Werman, he has the script with portions for where to insert sound files to play. And some of these files were recorded while others were from the Internet. It seems like if I were to begin the transformation to a radio installation, I would need to revise my piece after getting feedback and then figure out what I would like to put where. Then I can revise for the radio and find files I can use. With all of that done, I will be able to assemble them all together for the final piece. So, I now have a roadmap on what to do. Now I just need to see what people liked and disliked about my piece and figure out what to change and what to keep.
