Week 4-journal-Melissa Ha

Dictee has been such a refreshing read. I think that the ways she incorporates so many different cultures and sources into her writing is super inspiring. The organization of the book itself into the nine muses and the references to Greek myths really stood out to me. As well as the inclusion of her own history, among the history of women. I think the intercultural aspect was very evident as we can take inspiration from other cultures when we write our own stories. The ways she ties it all together through the theme of suffering too was super cool, and made me think about my own piece. I think a lot my own identity, and the ways I feel connected and disconnected from it. Ethnically I am Vietnamese, but culturally I am American. Tying the two together is hard, especially when I don’t feel super connected to my ethnic culture. But in my audio piece I can potetially describe the attempt to connect the two disparate cultures together through food and maybe the experiences of people around me, celebrating the culture in their own way through traditions and other practices.
