Upon hearing the from Marco himself, I feel like the prospect the radio can be expanded to not address myself but contemporary culture in some way. I learned a lot from him about how radio works formally in the “real world” in the form of new stories and journalistic pieces of writing. In sharing the first piece about Ali Farka, I liked how he described the way process of not just recording the interview but how he decided to script and put together the whole story. Including the most important things in the beginning and then going into the specifics and the journey was really helpful for me.
As for the last two clips we heard, I think his approach to radio journalism is very good. He lets the interviewees speak for themselves, and goes to great lengths to translate honestly. I think the use of the actors in mimicking the voices can be helpful to listeners.
Thinking about the final project, I want to push myself to get more that one perspective on culture. Maybe I can try to find someone I can interview in order to find the answers I am looking for in my final project.
