Week #6: Project Considerations – Megan Lee

From this week, I enjoyed our guest speaker’s presentation on what goes into making an audio text. There were definitely more considerations to it than I was aware of, so I’ll be sure to keep those in mind for my project!

For my project, I was actually hoping to do something similar in the sense of having overlapping audio the way our guest speaker’s reportings had the English translations overlapping the original speech. However, I was thinking about having three audios running at once. I am now wondering if that is perhaps not the route I should take and maybe try to have it as just two audios so that the garble of noise is not too unclear. The current thought is that perhaps I will just have one set at a really low volume and the other two will take turns.

Something I found interesting in the audios we listened to for this week was the use of descriptive imagery to set a scene. My experience with newsradio has not really featured this before; I’ve mostly heard descriptions of traffic and ads, which does not really conjure specific images in my mind. I think this concept of radio also being descriptive visually is a fun one and one that I might try to incorporate into my work!

My current plans for the project (not that I think they have too much room to change as it is about the middle of the quarter) are to reflect on the increasing digitality of our world with clips from news headlines I have read. I might include excerpts from the articles but I have yet to decide. Alongside this I also intend to include a little bit of my personal thoughts on this topic. The final touch would be the selection of songs I hope to have playing in the background, most of which I think will be Chinese 80s-90s hits as both a nod to my personal tastes as well as to things from “the past.” With this I hope to question the pros and cons of our increasingly online world.

If there are 100 Jacky Cheung fans in this world I am one if them, if there is one Jacky Cheung fan it is me, if there are no Jacky Cheung fans that means I am dead
I am a Jacky Cheung fan first human second (the title track of this album changed me as a person)
