Radio Chthulucene 87.9 FM

I do acknowledge that my blog post is late this week. I had planned to write it either Sunday or Monday, but I had a lot going on in my life on Monday — including the shocking event from this week. I was very tired that day after returning from work after said event and took a nap that resulted in me waking up in a very dark room and feeling very confused.

I’ve been working more on my piece and I had an opportunity over the weekend to watch videos of Latasha N. Diggs performing some of her pieces. I’ve come in contact with her work before in a poetry class, and I noticed in her presenting her pieces, she takes a lot of liberties and her words come from the soul. I had listened to her audio recording of her poem ‘the originator’ and, even though she had tripped over her words while speaking, she utilized that to her advantage. I don’t know how to describe it in texts besides flipping a mistake on its back to help you. If that makes sense.

Her very liberal approach to poetry inspires me to be less robotic in my approach toward my project for this class. If I choke up during recording, then so be it. If I cry during the recording, it makes it more authentic. Whatever, you know? I can present it however I feel gets my emotion across so long as it adheres to the class topics.

I don’t have much else to update on; I’ve been working on flipping around Spanish and English translations within my piece, as well as omitting translations altogether. I definitely want to add another form and break the poem structure that my piece follows.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to get political in these posts, but I think it’s very important to remind those reading that free speech is a human right! Free Palestine!
