I’ve started on actual revisions, as opposed to just adding to my initial script. I’ve settled on going with a hybrid script format with prose. It blends with the stage directions, and I think it’ll translate pretty well to an audio. Right now I’m trying to figure out some key differences between living vs dead for Clara. What changed for her as she got accustomed to purgatory, and how can I express that over a recording. I could use a voice modulator to make Clara over the radio sound different than the narrating Clara, maybe with a staticy radio voice. I think that would be cool, and I’m sure there are some websites that can help. As for right now, i’m just working on making the narrator sassy and rude to the radio host, being petty, and even going so far as to censor her.
Here’s an example of the narrator becoming self-aware about who the radio host is:
“Clara glances above the microphone to the opposite wall, where a beautifully framed news clipping decorates the pale, static patterned wallpaper. The color is hard to describe, but it never really stops moving, birthing slightly off-tones, and shifting out of the corner of your eye. The headline reads, “Frequency Foul Play: Bonafonte’s Studio Turned Crime Scene.” (hesitant) The black-and-white photo underneath depicts a bright-eyed Bonafonte lounging in a similar chair with a tacky vest and an 80s style perm. Her teeth are perfect, and two dimples peek out from under her massive hair. Wait… I think I remember that photo… (laugh) That can’t be right. I’m dreaming, wh-why does she look exactly like–”
I figure the script might be difficult to make sense of just reading it, since it’s meant to shine when read aloud, but I’m trying to decide on a kind of notation for the narrator so I know how to read it. I don’t think I’ll need anyone else’s voice for this project, I just know it’ll be weird hearing myself speak in different voices or intonations. It should be interesting. I’m in contact with my partner in the other class, but for the most part, it’s just been about what their part consists of. I think I’m most nervous about the idea of editing audio. I’ve never done it before, so I’m really going into this blind. I don’t know how it works, or what software is available. (401)
