Week #8 Found a Spot? – Megan Lee

At long last I have narrowed down locations for my radio! Figuring this out involved a few series of meandering walks around campus as I pondered over my criteria for what would make a good radio spot. I privately dubbed these walks my wander and ponders for I was nothing if not quite heavily pondering (everything from the radio project to what I would be cooking for dinner to my relationships with those around me to my future) while I wandered in and out of familiar haunts of memories past and territory totally new to me despite this being my third year at UCSD. It was quite the good time!

As my piece deals with the interaction of the digital world, media (especially music!), and the self, some places I considered in relation to this were the Warren lecture halls (where I’ve had many of my literature classes), Darkstar, Groundworks, KDST, the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute, and the Communications building. I also considered putting my radio in a place of personal significance to me and in this regard the second floor of Price Center, my freshman year dorm, and miscellaneous tables around campus made it to the list. However, important to me was that my radio would not be in too public of a location given that, despite being a literature major, I am not too big on sharing my personal writings.

What eliminated quite a few of these spaces was a lack of an outlet (very unfortunately). So, it was to my great surprise and (hopefully) good fortune today that when browsing locations yet again I found an outlet on the second floor of the old student center that was in a bit of a corner location and next to UCSD’s The Guardian. I have written asking for permission to use the outlet, and I hope it will be granted!
