I got sick this weekend and have been coughing ever since, so that’s not making the recording process any easier. Still, I’m doing my best to get everything worked out. I’ve asked for permission for my location, reached out to my partner to coordinate setting up the radio, and I’m trying to figure out all the technical aspects of recording the project. I’m not very technologically savvy, but I have two computer scientists in my family, so I’m sure they can help if I get stuck. I also hate the sound of my own voice, so I’m trying to get over that so that I can listen to the recordings and redo the parts I want to sound better. I’ve always enjoyed writing more than speaking, so this project that combines the two is an interesting challenge. I’d definitely rather record something prewritten than have to come up with something to say on the spot, at least.
I also want to see if I can incorporate a few more sound elements in my piece. I talked to my dad about Hebrew songs that I could play during breaks between sections; I think this could make it clearer when one section starts and another ends in the audio format. I want to use a song by a female singer, of course, for feminism’s sake. Other than that, I’m just playing with how I can use tone of voice and maybe sound effects to accentuate my points. I have a fairly monotone voice naturally, so recording this is like a DIY acting class, trying to get emotions across through vocal inflections. I don’t normally perceive the monotone quality of my speech, but I definitely hear it when it’s recorded. Overall, I’m not expecting to create the most impressive audio project ever, since I’ve never really done anything like this before, but I’m doing my best not to bore myself or my listeners.
