The project/song is basically complete now. I was able to get a rougher draft of my song workshopped last week, and the suggestions have allowed me to refine and polish my song to a state in which I feel comfortable displaying it on campus. I think that the main criticism was that the song felt a little slow, which makes sense considering that my initial recording was made pretty much right after I wrote the song. But with my re-recordings, everything feels more smooth and cohesive. I was also able to add some more software instruments that give the song more layers of sound. Re-recording also gave me the opportunity to tweak and expand some lyrics, allowing a deeper story to evolve throughout the song’s runtime. I decided to focus my lyrics on the theme of fire, as I think it acts a good symbol for both the passion of love and the pain it can cause. I also tried to make the song more personal to the singer by delving into their emotions and regrets. I am quite pleased with how everything turned out. I just need to add some finishing touches and everything should go smoothly afterwards.
I also managed to secure a spot for my radio. My roommate very generously allowed me to use his lab room in the engineering to place my radio station. I think it’s in a good area, as there’s a lot of foot traffic that goes through that area. My only real concern is that the room itself is somewhat below ground and isolated, meaning that radio waves would not be best suited for that environment. However, this is the only place on campus that I was able to actually secure, so it will have to do.
