I finally finished recording my piece. I absolutely hate my voice but I did not want anyone else to record my piece since it’s about my life and my childhood. I took the class’s feedback into consideration in expanding my piece and included more details and information about each moment.
One thing I struggled with when putting my audio together was including my camcorder footage. I knew the quality wasn’t great but I didn’t realize how bad it would sound. I had to take some time to edit the videos to capture the best parts of sound within the videos. I tried to include moments where the audio would make some sense with my topics and hopefully an audience will be able to understand how the audio pairs with my project. Either way, I am happy with the final product and if anything, at least I will be able to understand how the audio ties into my project.
This process of editing was a little bit sad for me to do since I finally saw how much of these memories are lost now. I don’t think this footage can be repaired since its from such an old device. One of the clips of audio I was originally going to use was from when my cousin, sister, and I did a performance for our parents. We pretended we were on American Idol and each did a mini audition. Unfortunately, much of this footage was muted or static. I couldn’t use more than a couple seconds from this footage but I chose to include a brief moment since it was still special to me.
One critique that I didn’t follow was finishing my piece with the song I had at the end. Since other people said that I should make my ending more tied to my first paragraph, it didn’t seem right to have my final thoughts and then another piece of sound that tied to memory. Instead I chose to finish the piece with final bits of camcorder footage that was better quality. The audience is able to actually hear my voice from when I was like 3 or 4 years old. I like how this audio ended fading out at the end.
