I didn’t realize that my very last shift at the restaurant would coincide with the completion of my project. My friends and family surprised me at work for my last day. My managers also purchased ice cream and cupcakes for me. They passed around a card, and my (former) coworkers wrote very kind messages. I cried, which was rather embarrassing. Anyway, I’m now unemployed; I am a wholly unproductive member of society!
Thank you to all of my friends, family members, coworkers, teachers, and peers who, for reasons I cannot understand, continually support me and my artistic endeavors. People are my purpose and my biggest inspirations.
Behold, my ode to North Italia One Paseo:
Author’s Note: My current working pen name, ofelia sailor, is an anagram of Sofia R. Aiello (thanks to my roommate/childhood friend, who’s really good at this sort of thing). “ofelia” is a nod to Shakespeare’s Hamlet, as well as Guillermo Del Toro’s El laberinto del fauno (two of my all-time favorite works of art!). I like that it can be spelled with a ph or an f, just like my real name. “sailor” is a nod to my father, who prefers to live on a boat. Personally, I suffer from horrendous motion sickness, but I appreciate the romanticism of existing in solitude on the open seas.
86 me (for now) ❤
