This is it. The last week of the quarter (excluding finals week, which I still need to study for) and the week of the Radio Cthulucene piece’s broadcast.
I had already recorded and submitted the audio file at the beginning of the week. All I had left to do was to give my partner the SD card with the file and let him build the radio. He finished by the end of the week. Later, I installed it in my room. Now it is on (hopefully, since I have no radio to check if it is or not) and broadcasting my piece to the world.
Completing the project took a while. I did not have a first draft until shortly before I had to submit it. I then worked on it over the next few weeks. But near the end of that time, I finalized the script and recorded the audio. It was a bit difficult, as I had to learn how to use the software for recording audio. But once I figured out how to do that, the rest fell into place.
I finally chose to place the radio station in my room in Sankofa Hall, out of convenience. I live there and did not need to submit a letter for it. However, based on the map, I think I should have gone with Asante as no one has a project in ERC but someone does have one in Podemos. Oh well. It should still be fine.
I think some of my project’s biggest weaknesses are the fact that I voiced everyone and its simplicity. It is not a straightforward piece, due to the multiple channels each offering only tidbits of information. That is the point, but I worry that it is unclear due to having only one voice and a simple soundscape. As for its strength, I guess its concept, with worldbuilding and different channels, is the strength.
If I were to expand this piece, I would just add more elements, like music and background noise, and more channels to show how the Great Dissipation has affected people in the period following its occurrence.
So that’s it. The end of the road and of these journal entries. The piece is being played and soon, it will be taken down and the radio returned to my partner. And with that, this class will be done. But for now, I will just play my piece and hope some people hear it and enjoy it.
