Throughout the process of creating my work I watched the seasons change from winter to spring and now from spring to summer and could not help but admire the beauty of the location of La Jolla to the coast. With the Pacific Ocean right at my fingertips I had to incorporate the aspect of water into my project and decided to name it Aqua Waves. As someone who has grown up along the coast all of my life, recreational activities in the water have been a constant hobby throughout my life. I also have had the luxury of being a part of the NCAA Division 1 athletics program here at UC San Diego on the Men’s Water Polo team and find myself in the pool almost every day of the week training. With this in mind, I decided there was no better location on campus to station my work other than at the Canyonview Aquatic Center, a place I call home. At this location I was permitted to have my station located in one of the outdoor storage sheds so it could be located in very close proximity to the pool itself, further emphasizing my work’s name, Aqua Waves. As I could not put my project in the water itself, the nearby storage shed was a perfect spot with a rustic location where my radio could sit in a bin of various screws and bolts, not to mess up the atmosphere of the location I was using. I decided to code the audio for my project to sound very distorted at multiple different randomized timings and frequencies, just like the sounds of water on your ears when you are taking a dip in the ocean or pool. I am glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of this first ever exhibition project at UC San Diego and I look forward to others listening to my station on 87.9 FM.

This project was part of Radio Chthulucene 1
Experimental Poetic and Hertzian waves on bespoke transmission technologies for local frequency modulation. The peripatetic and the unlicensed. Zombie tones are not made alone, it takes a village to raise a golem. And their kins. A talking house full of haunted pasts, no longer self sufficient but instead of co-making. These are the sounds of the Chthulucene.
For the first time, Monday June 3rd through Friday the 7th, 2024.
