This project is based on the feeling of being caught in a spider web. It’s familiar for us students, as assignment deadlines and exam dates get closer and closer, as if they are spiders looming over we who are stuck in the web of time. For the audio, I chose to repeat a sequence of ascending notes, increasing in tempo and building up tension with every iteration. This parallels the stress we may feel before an important due date, stress accumulating with every passing day while we are paralyzed into procrastination. The radio station is placed in a box covered in a crocheted oily that resembles a web. Creating it put me in a bit of a paradoxical position, being both the “spider” crocheting the web, and the prey of the deadline to complete it. Spider Web is located in Darkstar library, a small, almost hidden library in the Student Center that I myself have only recently discovered, and sometimes reminds of an attic where a spider might reside.
