The Bering Strait
By Celeste Li
This radio station is inspired by homesickness. Having not seen my grandparents for six years, I often struggle with feelings of sadness and guilt. To reflect this emotion, I have chosen to program the Chinese song 送别 (Farewell) into my station. This song describes the feeling of watching your loved one leave. In my case, it’s my family watching me leave in pursuit of a better future. The artwork is a painting that captures my feelings and the scene I imagined when I listen to this song— a little ghost walking to the sun alone.
I’ve titled this piece “The Bering Strait” because it symbolizes the divide between the Asian and North American continents. The strait is treacherous to cross, much like the emotional and physical distance separating me from my home.
