I reached out to Student Legal Services last weekend about using their space because my story centers a law office. I also plan to ask my boss about using the office space too. I think it should be fine? We planned on meeting up but since I was back in LA for my little sister’s graduation and she was in SD and working, we never got a chance. As for my radio transcript, I made some edits based on the comments I got. It was really nice to get to read all the comments on my piece. I want to focus more on the intersectional aspect and less on the character of Max. I think that was the biggest thing I needed to change! I need to finalize the transcript and expand on more of the ending as well. I think that the first draft didn’t really have an ending, and that it should be expanded on more if I want to hit the 7 minute mark.
As for the readings, I really loved getting to hear from Professor Hoang about her upcoming piece, Broccoli. I loved hearing about the collaborative process and reading the story. I think the process of writing in another language is so hard, especially trying to get it right. But as a person who speaks very little Vietnamese, I was able to recognize some words but still had to look at the translations on the side as well. I think the mixing of the languages is not something I am used to reading in a book, so it caught me off guard. But I really enjoyed hearing her talk about the process of writing this piece!
