I haven’t figured out quite yet what I want to do for my final project, but I feel like I want it to relate to the environment in which it will be placed some how. Grounding it in the place, whether that be La Jolla or San Diego in general will make sure that those who are tuned in to the radios learn something about the environment around them.
I’m not sure where I would place the radio, since it has to be connected to a wall socket to work. Maybe in the SIO, scripps buildings somewhere? I like the idea of a radio near the beach, reporting on different things surrounding ocean life. Maybe a call towards the different actions we can take to protect our environment?
But as I read the readings, especially Donna Hardaway’s piece, it makes me think about how we can communicate across species and languages. It doesn’t have to be confined to a single thing and it shouldn’t be.
I hope to figure our more in the coming weeks about what I want this to be but for now a transmitter radio about the ocean and animals life sounds fun to me, but not something I am fully set on.
