“Dilemma of the Decade” is the title of my project 2. It is based on the well-known and quite infuriating argument (or dilemma) of the Yanny/ Laurel audio that was especially spiraling around in May of 2018. The science behind this audio is quite literally your brain unconsciously which of the frequencies of the audio to listen in on, hence both being applicable options. I initially started by trying to convert the audio to midi which wouldn’t work because of the words playing, so I took it a step further and made a morse code audio of Yanny and Laurel which also supports the argument of both being applicable options. For my “decoration” aspect, I drew two of my favorite anime characters from the anime “Haikyuu!!”, Oikawa Tooru and Iwaizumi Hajime. They are both characters with essentially polar opposite personalities but are still close-knitted best friends; I thought that somehow resonated with the overall theme but I also enjoyed illustrating two of my favorites for the sake of it. To further resonate with the theme, I had them wear the colors of the other popular dilemma occurring simultaneously, of the dress that was either perceived as blue and black or gold and white. This was essentially the same concept but instead in a visual aspect rather than auditory.
My project is located in room 304 of the EnVision Maker Studio in the SME building.
